What does it take to create some of this county's most anticipated new wines? Talent, trust and friendship! Long-time friends Scott Klann and Mark Skenfield returned to their hometown of Murphys, getting involved in the growing wine industry of Calaveras County. Scott was pursuing his interest in wine making, and Mark was beginning his own vineyard development and management company. With the shared philosophy that great wine was the result of winemaker-grower synergy, they focused on developing a relationship which would enable them to have complete control of their product, from the grape to the glass.
In 2000 Newsome-Harlow was born, creating premium wines from hand-farmed varietals. Soon thereafter, the pair enlisted the expertise of attorney and good friend, Hugh Swift, to draft a partnership agreement. As the relationship evolved, both Mark and Scott recognized that Hugh's candor, dry sense of humor and love of wine fit well with them. So well in fact, that Hugh became a partner in the winery.
