Established in 1989, The Calaveras Wine Alliance (CWA) is a non-profit organization,
dedicated to increasing the awareness of all wines produced in Calaveras County and/or
produced from Calaveras grapes. We represent Calaveras County families - making some of the most exciting wines in California’s historic Sierra Foothills region. The Calaveras Grape Stomp Competition was started 30 years ago by local winery owners and grape growers who wanted to create a fun event to celebrate the harvest season and to give back to their local communities.
This past year, the 30th Annual Calaveras Grape Stomp silent and live auction brought in $10,250 which was given back to the community in the form of donations and youth scholarships. Four high school seniors and thirteen community organizations were selected to receive a portion of the auction proceeds. This year’s community organizations included Bret Harte FFA, Calaveras FFA, Gold Country Young Farmers and Ranchers, Calaveras Volunteer Sheriff’s, Resource Connection Food Bank, Sierra Hope, Calaveras Humane Society, Murphys Community Park, Feeney Park Foundation, Murphys Library, Calaveras Mentoring Foundation and Meals on Wheels. The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance also honored Doug Brown and his commitment to the Grape Stomp and many years supporting the community with a donation in Doug’s name to AMA Boosters Club. Doug, who passed away earlier this year, was the Grape Stomp MC for 29 years and a big supporter of many local organizations.
The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance is proud to support our local high school students each year in their pursuit to further their education and become leaders in the agricultural business and our local organizations who give back to our community. Our Calaveras winery and industry members take great pride in the Grape Stomp auction and donate generously with adventure packages, travel packages, golf outings, exclusive winemaker dinner events, concert tickets, wine and so much more.
